A transgender couple from Cork have revealed their hope to become parents, after taking steps to freeze their eggs and sperm
Jamie O’Herlihy and her partner Harry Matthews, who was born a woman but has transitioned, both 24, plan to use surrogacy to become the first transgender couple in Ireland to become parents with a biological child.
The couple, who have been together nine months, met in 2016 at a support group and Jamie, who was born male, told the Irish Mirror “The doctor said if I started treatment (to transition without freezing my sperm I wouldn’t be able to have children. That freaked me out. I’ve always wanted to have kids..”
The couple live in Dublin and have not as yet put any firm plans in place about when to have children.
