It is hard to believe that 20 years has passed since we watched Mr Big sweep Carrie Bradshaw off her feet in the final episode of the hugely popular Sex And The City (SATC)

We laughed, cried and recoiled (especially with Samantha’s antics) as we sat on our sofas watching the sassy singletons navigate their way through their 30s.

The four women who starred in the show, Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davies, all went on to have their own success – but the question we all want to know is: Did they find love and babies in their real lives?

Sarah Jessica Parker

Sarah had already been married to actor Matthew Broderick for just a year when she began production on SATC. The couple had their first child, James, in 2002 aged 37.

As one of eight siblings, Sarah had spoken about wanting a large family, and the couple soon began trying for a sibling for James.

But the couple suffered secondary infertility.

It has been widely reported that the couple had fertility struggles for several years before deciding to look at surrogacy.

She told US Vogue magazine: “We tried and tried and tried to get pregnant, it was not to be…I would give birth if I could.”

The couple had twins via surrogate Michelle Ross, when Sarah was 43.

Kim Cattrall

The 61-year-old played the sassy Samantha in the smash hit SATC series and subsequent films.

She married three times but never had children – something that she does have sadness for.

When she appeared in an episode of Piers Morgan’s Life Stories she said: “I thought to myself, ‘Wow I have 19 hour days on this series’. I have weekends where I finish on Saturday morning. My Monday morning would start at 4.45am and go to one or two in the morning. How could I possibly continue to do that, especially in my early 40s? And then I realised what a commitment it was just to go through the [IVF] procedures.”

She said there was a huge part of her that was maternal and she always expected it to happen for her.

When it didn’t she threw herself into mentoring young actresses which gave her a sense of being a mother – just not biologically.

Cynthia Nixon

The 52-year-old actress who played Miranda in the hit series has been married and had two children with ex-husband, Danny Mozes. The couple split in 2003 and she went on to have a same sex relationship and subsequently marry Christine Marinoni. The couple have a seven-year-old son, Max.

Cynthia is an advocate for LGBT rights in the US and has been honoured for her work into raising awareness and campaigning for same-sex marriage.

Kristin Davies

Life imitates art when it comes to the 53-year-old and family. In the HBO hit show, Kristin played Charlotte, the conservative and shy art gallery curator, who longed to be a wife and have children. Her devastation at her infertility issues was there for all to see and in this episode her inner turmoil is demonstrated with her inability to be able to speak to her close friend ‘Miranda’ who had ‘got pregnant by mistake’.

But it wasn’t until she met second husband, Harry that things started to look positive for her. Charlotte and Harry struggled to have children, so decided to adopt a Chinese baby, Lily. Charlotte’s experience with infertility was so very honest and raw.

In real life Kristin has adopted two children, the first a baby girl, Gemma Rose Davies in 2011 and a boy in 2018.

She is incredibly private and little is known about her love life or children.

Kristin is one of a slew of stars that have taken the adoption route, such as Madonna, Sandra Bullock and Angelina Jolie.

Sex and the City was fun to watch and gave us so many things.

Such frank advice on relationships and what that entailed, fashion trends, lifestyle options and so much more! We watched enthralled as their lives unfolded.

Carrie, Miranda, Samantha and Charlotte made us laugh, cry and were proof that a woman’s life can be lived in so many different ways.

Equally, as in the actresses real lives, life is not always the way we expect it to be and can take so many directions and challenges on the route to parenthood.
