A couple from Plymouth have welcomed triplets after spending £20,000 on 11 rounds of IUI

Laura McLoughlin, 33, and Laura Shepherd, 37, have welcomed triplets, Hope, Teddy and Arthur, much to their joy.

The couple met ten years ago and began the rollercoaster ride of trying for children, using IVF and IUI, at a cost of £2,000 a go, which was self-funded as there was no funding available for the same-sex couple.

After four years, on the 11th attempt, they got the most amazing news that they were expecting and the triplets were born in May 2017 – nine weeks early.

The couple had been expecting quadruplets but got the sad news that one had no heartbeat at their first scan.

The trio of joy spent their first three weeks in the special care baby unit and intensive care, but are all now home and settled.

Miss McLoughlin told The Metro newspaper: “The neonatal staff were fabulous and got them into a routine we’ve carried on. It’s great fun having triplets – very tiring, and worth every penny.”
